Recall that the tech giant bought Intel's modem business in 2019 to start producing its own 5G chips for iPhones.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">(1\/4)<br>[Company Update] Qualcomm (QCOM.O)<\/p>\n<p>My latest survey indicates that Apple\u2019s own iPhone 5G modem chip development may have failed, so Qualcomm will remain exclusive supplier for 5G chips of 2H23 new iPhones, with a 100% supply share (vs. company\u2019s previous estimate of 20%).<\/p>\n<p>- \u90ed\u660e\u9324 (Ming-Chi Kuo) (@mingchikuo) <a rel=\"nofollow noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/mingchikuo\/status\/1541814293599252481?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\" aria-label=\"Icon\" target=\"_blank\">June 28, 2022<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Reports of Apple's 5G modem deployment began in late 2020, but Kuo's post suggests that Apple won't be ready to transition to its own 5G modem until 2024.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">(3\/4)<br>2. Shortly after Kuo's report was released, Qualcomm's stock rose over 3%. According to CNBC, Qualcomm was previously expected to supply 20% of 5G modems for the 2023 iPhones.<\/p>\n<p>Reports indicate that Apple's 5G modems are still under development. Kuo expects Apple's chips will eventually replace Qualcomm's 5G modems in the new iPhones.
