The supplier of Apple, BOE, is still waiting to receive approval from the tech giant to manufacture OLED panels for its upcoming iPhone 14 series, according to The Elec. The waiting situation exists after the company was found to have made design changes without Apple's approval.
In particular, he reportedly expanded the circuit width of the thin-film transistors, presumably in an attempt to increase the efficiency rate. Once Apple discovered the unapproved changes, it requested that production be halted. Since then, BOE has reportedly received no orders for OLED panels for the iPhone 14.
According to The Elec's sources, the BOE went to Cupertino to explain its move, but what it said does not seem to have convinced the company. The C-level executive and officials who visited the headquarters also asked Apple to approve the production of OLED panels for the iPhone 14, but "did not receive a clear answer".
Apple is considering giving the order originally intended for BOE to Samsung and LG; the amount the Chinese company could actually lose is in the order of 30 million OLED screens.
